about

BLKLN is a gifted designer of sound and virtuosic guitar player. He has recorded or toured with John Zorn, Jon Hassell, Henry Kaiser, Butch Morris and Tristeza. He’s always impeccably dressed and is legendary for having a savant-like knowledge of rare new wave and post-punk records. He’s every bit the gentleman but the city of Oakland and its turbulent political past runs through his music.

"Today I saw a slave become more powerful than the emperor of Rome” is classic no-wave. It doesn’t apologize for its adoration of Downtown ’81 and outward embrace of Basquiat’s Manhattan. It seeks self-reliance and knowledge of self, hyper-aware of the hidden hand governing currency and culture.
